Not to be forwarded

A friend from Hawaii (yeah, I have friends… some of them live in exotic places) sent this humorous flash animation to me. Be sure not to forward it to five people before the full moon. Seriously.
(Thanks Rachelle!)

Siren song

The weirdest thing happened last night in our quiet little bedroom community (it’s just down the hall from the bathroom community – turn right at linen closet). At about 10:30 TT and I began to hear police sirens. We figured there had been a traffic accident at the Krispy Kreme or some other place where [...]

Skyperspace

I’m probably the last person on the planet to discover Internet telephony but I have to say the hour-long conference call I had with friends in California this evening was like nothing I’d experienced before. The sound quality was much better than that available on a telephone and at times I forgot that we weren’t [...]

Quiet Chat

Posts will be a bit light here for a while. My consulting work has picked up and I’m trying my level best to stay on top of a senior thesis that won’t write itself.
Meanwhile, something rather unexpected happened when I put the IM chat indicators up. Several people I haven’t talked to in a long [...]

Battlestar 220: Frontier Days

I’m a little grumpy just now. My DVR cut off the last minute or so of the Battlestar Galactica season finale. Thank the gods Sci-Fi re-runs it at 1:30 A.M. I’ve recomputed for a wider firing solution this time.
As to the balance of the show: Where on Caprica II are they going with this program?
Starbuck [...]

Just like the ones I used to know

It’s snowing today in Beaverton. None of the weather services expected it and certainly no one around here anticipated we would get a dusting. The temperature outside isn’t low enough to let any snow accumulate but it’s fun to watch it come down.

Black. White.

I couldn’t sleep last night so I watched the premier of FX network’s “Black. White.,” a show about two families that exchange races. (No, the show is not about keys on a piano… that would be “Ebony. Ivory.”)
In addition to being made up to look black or white, the two families will be living together [...]

Don’t Shoot the Messenger

A friend of a friend of mine recently showed off his brand new MacBook Pro by calling me up on iChat. I immediately flew into a jealous rage but then recovered, happy in the knowledge that I’m perfectly okay with my old G4 mini. Yes, I am. And — darn it — I like myself! [...]

And the Stewart goes to…

I watched the 78th Academy Awards show for only one reason: Jon Stewart. I’m a big fan and, while he did at first seem to stumble (his first three jokes fell flat), I thought he caught his stride by the middle of the program. Or, alternately, maybe the audience figured out what he was doing. [...]
