Brookings, OregonJune 1, 2004 ![]()
I arrived in Brookings at around 9:30 p.m., too late to take any reasonable pictures. The Smugglers Cove Restaurant and Lounge sits next to one of those sea side gift shops but I was able to avoid compulsive gift shopping. If only I had been able to avoid the lounge. After collecting my stamp, I decided to have a sliver of authentic Brookings cheesecake with coffee. Just the sort of sugar/caffeine downer/upper I needed at the end of a long day. The lounge singer was torturing (or was it just hazing) Elton John's Your Song. This by itself might have been enough to put me off of my food but, you see, I wasn't sitting in the lounge -- the restaurant was treating its guests to a classical recording of Johann Pachelbel's Cannon in D. The mingling of the good (Pachelbel) and the bad (lounge suit Larry) was almost enough to make me want to put my ears out with a fork. I had cheesecake instead. Related Links
