While I was stuffing my face, several other people stopped in to get their Tour Books stamped. My chosen route was south along Hwy 99 W through Newberg, McMinnville and Amity. I returned east through Salem and then north along Interstate 5 to Portland. Hwy 99 can be miserable in places as the road occasionally narrows to one lane each way and is peppered On my way north, I took up tail position for a while with five riders (three ST1100's, a BMW K bike and one other) in a group. I think I confused the lead guy for a while They pulled off at Lake Oswego and I continued on into Portland at a slightly lower pace. |
Having never participated in a rally before, (remember, this is NOT a race,) I decided to snag the closest checkpoint first. The place was Farrol's Restaurant & Lounge. I stopped, presented my tour book, got my stamp and started to leave. Then I remembered that I was hungry...
with artificially low speed limit zones. There were numerous law enforcement officers present this day to keep us all honest.
