Prospect, Oregon

Leaving behind the art and culture of Chemult (or Crescent or whatever it was called), I continued south along Hwy 97.  Took a right at 138 which, like another road I was on today goes for about 10 miles in a perfectly straight line.

The road was lined with trees and those other greenish-brown plants and the ground was covered in patches of snow.  Chilly.  I stopped and added a sweatshirt to my ensemble.

The road eventually curved and got a bit interesting.  The roads into and around Crater Lake were still closed with gobs of un-melted snow.  It was my hope that I could run around the rim of the crater, but that wasn't to be today.

Joined 230 going southwest until it ran into 62.  No one was hurt.   Passed near Union Creek where I learned to hate camping as a child.  If I had brought a tent, I most certainly could have made it rain.

Prospect isn't directly on the highway; it is accessed via a road that runs parallel.  Quaint place, really.  I wouldn't want to live there, but there are some nifty falls nearby and I didn't see anything at all resembling a traffic jam.   The Gorge Restaurant is located at the end of the access road and is connected to a video rental store and laundromat.

I stopped in for a soda in the bar (having eaten a meal at each of my other stops, I had no appetite.)  Collected my stamp and joined in on a conversation amongst the locals about gun control and government and regulations and money and stuff like that.  We solved a lot of the world's problems right then, but I can't seem to remember what we decided.

This is the second stop out of 12 so far where I forgot to snap a picture.   So, imagine a large-ish brown building with a sign out front that says "The Gorge Restaurant."  I think that will do the trick.

I slinked on into Medford for the evening.  There's one more stop for me in Oregon before I descend into that Other State on our southern border for some fun unrelated to the rally.  I may or may not keep web pages for those trips.  As much as I enjoy doing this, it's a lot of work and I'm down here to play.
